I finally found some time and installed Kali linux, the Backtrack successor, on my Raspberry Pi!
Here is the screenshot:

Below, I will provide the high level steps in order to install and configure the Kali Linux on your RP!
"Ingredients" :p
- Raspberry Pi, 256MB RAM
- 16GB SD card Class 10
High level steps:
- Download kali linux image from here.
- Write on SD following the instructions provided by kali website or by Raspberry Pi website.
- Change your root password. Note that SSH is enabled by default, so theoretically you will not need to plug in a HDMI monitor.
- Expand the partition to fill all the SD card space. Because I am a little bit lazy, I used the raspi-config script with success!
Kali seems to run flawlessly up to this time. The following weeks I am going to test more features of Kali and see how I can take advantage of the flexibility provided by Raspberry Pi!
So stay tuned! :)
Does Kali for Pi start in terminal mode off the bat? I'm trying to install it without the aid of a monitor (I don't have one) but it doesn't exist on the routers DHCP list (so I can't connect to it)
ReplyDeleteI haven't installed it from command prompt; I used a monitor. I guess that you should start networking interfaces in order to get an IP from DHCP.
DeleteThanks for your notes. It helps! I can remotely login to raspi-kali using ssh. Note that I don't have HDMI monitor.
ReplyDeleteThe dhcp works fine.
You 're welcome!
Deletewhy not install tightvnc as well?
ReplyDeleteI didn't rule it out! If you don't have a monitor it's something you must do. Of course I have installed tightvnc on my production RP! :)
DeleteIf you put the image on according to the rasperry guide, with the tools mentioned there, it does boot Kali _and any other rasp pi distro directly, some into console mode and some like the xbmc ones into xbmc. Kali boots into login promt.
ReplyDeleteMine wont work, ive torrented the pi version and directly downloaded it, i also have tried several other versions also different sd cards and none of them will work on my pi :( ive followed the instructions on the website also youtube tutorials so i dont know whats wrong with it, using a raspberry pi model b
ReplyDeleteUse the instructions on the Raspberry Pi official site.
